October at LesMills Philomath: Making Ripples

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how I start my day…. what I say to myself first thing in the morning.

Because I know myself well enough to know that I can sometimes default to "I am not enough."

  • Not good enough.

  • Not doing enough.

  • Not smart enough.

  • Not independent enough.

  • Not perfect enough.

When I notice myself heading in that direction, I sometimes call a friend — someone who believes in me so completely that, for a little while, I can borrow her belief in me until I find my own again.

But I've been wondering:

How do I remind myself?

How do I keep moving in a direction that feels supportive and believing in myself, as I grow and learn to change that default thinking?

Lately, I've been trying on this:

“Today I will make ripples.”

I like it because it doesn't require me to have a perfect day.

Maybe it will be something big. Maybe it will be a small moment that I don’t even recognize as important until later.

It reminds me that the way I move through the world matters.

The way I talk to myself matters.

The way I care for myself matters.

And even the smallest things can have an effect beyond what I can see.

And it got me thinking about how powerful it can be to start the day with an intention — something we choose to carry with us.

So we’ve brought intention cards into the studio.

You can grab one in the morning and see what speaks to you that day. And there are blank cards, too, if you’d rather write your own.

Maybe your card says:

  • Today I will make ripples.

  • Today I will feed my bright.

  • Today I will listen to what my body needs.

  • Today I will make room for joy.

Or maybe you’ll write your own.

I love the idea that the intention might be different from day to day, because what we need is different from day to day, too.

And That Got Me Thinking About MOVEMENT-

  • Maybe you need something that makes you laugh — dancing, moving, and being a little ridiculous.

  • Maybe you need to lift powerful weights and feel strong.

  • Maybe you need BodyBalance to slow down, listen to your body, and work on balance and mobility.

  • Maybe you need a rest and reset day.

  • Maybe you need some time outside or time with people who make you laugh.

There are so many ways to move, and I think that’s one of the things I love about what we offer here.

Movement is about what makes you come alive.

It’s about shining your bright!

It’s about feeling amazing about yourself!

So maybe this month, instead of asking yourself what you should be doing, ask:

"What do I need - what do I want?"

Your answer might be different tomorrow.

Caring for yourself can simply be learning to listen closely enough to notice.

Because I’m beginning to understand those choices create ripples, too.

  • The way we talk to ourselves.

  • The way we care for ourselves.

  • The way we walk into a room.

  • A laugh.

  • A little encouragement.

  • Choosing to move when you need movement — or rest when you need rest.

We don’t always know how far those ripples travel.

Want To Learn More?

This same idea of staying connected to yourself is at the heart of my work through Be Empowered Whole Wellness.

Our first Whole Wellness group has been such a meaningful experience, and I’m excited to open a new cohort this fall.

One member shared:

“These sessions have been very meaningful to me. They have given me the space and tools to think about who I am and how I show up in the world. I’ve gained so much understanding and confidence about the value of being my authentic self.”

I love hearing this because that’s really what these groups are about — creating space to slow down, listen inward, and become more connected to who you already are.

If you’re curious about the fall cohort, just ask — I’d love to share more.

Some October Reminders:

Try something new: If there’s a class format you haven’t tried yet, October might be a great time to step outside your usual routine and see what you discover. Trying Bodybalance is the best way to give love back to your body!

Bring a friend: If someone in your life has been curious about LesMills Philomath, invite them to come experience a class with you. As Mark says "bringing someone you care about into exercise with you is an act of love."

Seasonal coaching is included with the Unlimited memberships: Would you like help with designing your seasonal movement schedule? Or maybe you'd like individual form & technique guidance. Schedule a consultation with Cindy.

Thank you for continuing to bring your energy, your personalities, your laughter, your effort, and your whole selves into this community.

You create ripples here, too.

And I’m going to keep practicing my morning reminder.

“Today you will make ripples.”

I wonder –  what yours will be?

I love you all!

Shine Bright, Cindy Appanaitis LesMills Philomath
